El video está hecho con la técnica del Stop Motion, que al igual que el Time Lapse, se basa en tomar multitud de fotografias estáticas con variaciones de posición de los objetos en cada una de ellas, y luego juntarlas en un video una detras de otra de forma que se aprecien los cambios como movimiento.
Pero la principal diferencia entre el Stop Motion y el Time Lapse es que el primero, se centra en el cambio de posición de los objetos, mientras que el segundo se centra en darle protagonismo al paso del tiempo, con los cambios de imagen como consecuencia del mismo.
Pero como funcionan ambas técnicas? Las dos se centran en aprovechar las capacidades del ojo humano para conseguir los efectos deseados. Nuestro ojo, aproximadamente, es capaz de detectar claramente los cambios entre dos imágenes, como imágenes separadas (o saltos) en todo aquello que esté por debajo de 18 fps (Frames Por Segundo, o Imágenes por segundo). A partir de ahi, con el incremento de fps, el ojo empieza a no ser capaz de distinguir los cambios como tal, y le envia la información al cerebro “obviando” lo que hay en medio, lo que el cerebro interpreta como movimiento. Por esa razón, las diferencias entre los estándares de video PAL (Europeo, a 25 fps) y NTSC (Estadounidense, a 29’9 fps) no marcan practicamente diferencia en lo que nuestro ojo es capaz de ver, porque a esas velocidades ya “no lo ve“.
(nota: otra técnica, pero a la inversa, es grabar algo a una velocidad inmensa que seguro que el ojo no es capaz de detectar, y luego reproducirlo a una velocidad visible. Es el Slow Motion, pero de eso hablamos otro dia).
Pero en los videos de Stop Motion, como el de Tokumaru, si que se ven los cambios, porque es parte del efecto expreso que se quiere conseguir. Con un video tan claro como este, podemos intentar ver como lo ha hecho. Si hacemos una captura de pantalla en el segundo 0:27 y en el segundo 0:30, o en cualquier otro intervalo de tiempo, podemos contar facilmente cuantas figuritas ha puesto el autor para dicho intervalo, y sacar asi los FPS que ha utilizado.
En este caso, yo cuento unas 30 figuritas para un intervalo de 3 segundos, lo que nos da unos fps de 10 imágenes por segundo. Un trabajo impresionante, si echamos cuentas y vemos que el video tiene unos 3 minutos de duración…
3 min x 60 seg/min x 10 imág/seg = 1800 frames
1800 figuritas a diseñar, recortar, colocar y fotografiar. Una totémica tarea de planificación y ejecución digna de reconocimiento (espero que al menos, hayan podido usar una cortadora asistida por ordenador para las piezas).

Otro video al que me ha recordado es al The Hardest Button to Button de los White Stripes, que riza un poco mas el rizo y utiliza la técnica del Stop Motion, pero en vez de usar imágenes fijas, usa pequeños fragmentos de 1/2 de segundo de imagen de video. Un efecto muy curioso también.

Resulta muy curioso ver las diferentes entonaciones y mensajes en las versiones de diferentes idiomas (para el que entienda los idiomas que se hablan).

Truco: tipografias de pago…sin pagar

Muchas veces a los viciadillos nos gusta hacer nuestros montajes, sin animo de lucro ni fama, simplemente por que si. Y para semejante tarea ocasional, no procede pagar por algunos recursos que, con toda probabilidad no vamos a utilizar mucho más, y mucho menos de forma profesional y explotada. Por tanto, hay que agenciarse algunos truquillos.
Para cosas sencillotas como esta, tenemos algunas webs de tipografias que nos pueden ayudar. Yo he descubierto recientemente MyFonts.com, que te permite, entre otras cosas, escribir el fragmento de texto que te de la gana y modificarlo de muchas maneras (tamaño, color, recorte, según la fuente, mayusculas y minusculas, etc…).
A partir de esto, con hacer una captura de pantalla, recortar el texto y pegarlo en el diseño que se quiera, vale. No es tan facil de manejar como una fuente propia instalada el ordenador, ya que la captura de pantalla nos dará una fuente ya raterizada, pero al menos podemos tener una tipografia de pago, “gratis”.
Limpiais vuestra imagen original con un poquito de arte (y tampon de clonar de Photoshop…)
Limpiais las zonas “blancas” de vuestra fuente, invertis la selección (Ctrl + Mays + I) e invertis el color (Ctrl + I). Seleccionais los pixeles en la capa, copiais y pegais en vuestro diseño.
A partir de ahi podeis ya jugar como querais, para que las texturas y los colores encajen en el modelo original que estais transformando.

Enseñemos a pensar

Uno de los grandes problemas que tenemos en esta sociedad, como parte de las causas de otros tantos otros problemas derivados, es la capacidad de pensar. Enseñemos a pensar bien. Da igual lo que enseñemos, pero enseñemos a pensar en cualquier situación, ante cualquier adversidad, y a sacar conclusiones propias. Y no solo a nuestros niños. Aprendamos nosotros, que nunca es tarde.
Digo esto porque me he encontrado con este enlace a un documental sobre la educación en EEUU:

Recuerdo que una de las “aptitudes” que intentaban desarrollar en nosotros en la universidad era el trabajo bajo presion. Siempre me ha parecido una chorrada, y ahora como currito más, porque todo trabajo bajo presión es un trabajo mal planteado, y de ahí no puede salir nada bueno.
Esta semana, sin lugar a dudas, podríamos decir que ha estado mal planificada, porque los trabajo previstos (mal calculados) se han visto peligrosamente cerca de salirse de la fecha limite de entrega, gracias a los imprevistos típicos de cualquier semana normal y algún que otro compromiso previo. Y eso, cuando se trata de clientes y no de prácticas universitarias, es poco conveniente.
Pero parece que el ser humano, o al menos Skiter, trabaja mejor bajo presión que con una holgada planificación. Llevaba bastante tiempo con ganas de recuperar ese nivel de concentración extremo que hace que no te des cuenta del paso de las horas, que termines reventado, durmiendo demasiadas pocas horas y con excesos de cafeína en el organismo…pero feliz y contento, sobre todo con los resultados. Rarezas de esas de “jodido pero contento” que solo se entienden dentro de un refrán.
“Causalmente“, como premio tras la entrega hoy del producto terminado, me he dado un premio y me he permitido ir al cine, casualmente a ver la pelicula Limitless (aqui se ha llamado “Sin Limites“), en la que un escritor fracasado recurre a una “droga” para potenciar su rendimiento cerebral y conseguir el éxito. El gran problema es el bajón que le da cuando se le pasan los efectos y sufre el efecto contrario, volviéndose lento, vago e inútil (y ya no os cuento más de la peli, para no fastidiarosla).
Me ha resultado curiosa la similitud con el trabajo bajo presión porque, tras la euforia durante la cual eres poco consciente de lo que ocurre a tu alrededor (drogado o trabajando), te sientes como un todopoderoso orgulloso, pero también llega el bajón y te quedas hecho una piltrafa humana, incapaz de decidir si le pides al camarero un coca-cola o una cerveza (yo hoy al final la cerveza me la estoy tomando en casa :P).
Conclusión: las drogas no son buenas. Trabajar bajo presión tampoco…aunque resulte altamente excitante (en ocasiones).
